Setúbal: Dolphin born in Rio Sado

Setúbal: Nasceu um golfinho-roaz no estuário do rio Sado. In this last month there are three newborn dolphins in the rio Sado. They are part of a group that has there home in this river in Portugal. The group is around 30 members big and being protected within the measurments that Portugal uses. Meaning not to much, as long as they are not in our way. But in this river a Marina (a port for the rich and famous is planed). And even now a lot of people wich speedboats pass by very close, because it is so funny to scare them.

Avenida da Liberdade is dirty

Avenida da Liberdade é suja. Portugal made it to be on top of a list of statitics in Europe. Pity it is again a list for negative things. This time a busy (who does you describe busy, it is busy but not overwhelming) street in Lisboa the owner to be the most polluted street in Europe. What a triumphf, what a glory, marvelous victory.

Portuguese children hardly go to school

Portugal is the worst member of the OCDE. Despite all the hope people still have and mayors who say that there municipal has the best school system in Portugal (and maybe outside also) Portuguese children hardly go to school. They are not only, according a study by the OCDE, less hours on school, the dropout rate is scaring high (different sources talk about 50% and more). And even those who finish there study (obligated) or go to university usually has a less practical study.

Basic problems are:
- To may different kind of university studies, 800.
- To many students choose the same study.
- No specializations. For example in Law.
- No penalizing or help studying for (possible) drop-outs.
- Mayors that say they have a good school system, but figures show 30% of the population is illiterate.

Freitas do Amaral left for breakfast

Minister of Foreign affairs denies rejecting Government. A rumor spread by a portuguese tabloid (newspaper with highest amount of readers) that the minister of FA is going to leave to government is denied by spokesmen from the minister. But we all know that it doesn't mean that the rumor is false. It will be the second minister that leaves the government of Socrates in only a half year of government. Lets wait and see. Men says that Freitas do Amaral is not happy with the choice for Soares as running candidate for President. Amaral is also know for his rejecting of any proposal for humanising and depenalising of abortus. And this is a hot item, but nobody wonts the burn his fingers on this issue.

Balcão único

Sócrates quer "um balcão único de serviços públicos em todos os concelhos". This means creating a 1-entrypoint for contact with the citizens. I come back on this.

Public administration [2]

Of course, the people are hard working men and women, whose goal in live is to be a public servant, with the benefits, with the possibility to call to friends in de time of the boss and more important the time of the citizen, to eat chewing gum at the front desk, to make sure that everyone in the line behind me can understand what we are discussing, so there goes my privacy, to put documents aside because they are waiting for a answer on a question they didn't asked, to blame the errors they made on the citizen and then ask him to pay for the error, the blame everybody but them self (but that is a human disease). No, luckily there are hard working PS, but they are hidden and are unable to change the way of functioning, because the way it is functioning is heavily protected by others. In this case, the way it functions generates power on every level.

Functioning of public administration being investigated

TSF Online. This will be a very short investigation. No more then one A4 you need to fill for the conclusion. The conclusion is simple, they don't function. And the commission of wise men, wich is created, will take a year for that. Every simple soul can make the same conclusion as I do and there is no have paid commission for necessary.

Soares [2]

Yesterday evening Soares indeed announced his running for President. He told in his speech, very short btw, to short for me, only 35 minutes, that is not a speech, that is a word you say to attend people for something. A speech takes at least 2 hours, everywhere politicians are the same, they can't talk, always that short notes, that one-liners. But after all, we have a youngster running for President. Soares told a bunch of young people shouted 'Soares is staying' and that was part of his decision to go for President. And that he moved, like Portugal, but Portugal doesn't move, so Soares doesn't move also. But I think that his earing device wasn't working good and that the group was shouting something else. For an old men, and even for me, it is simple to misunderstand 'Soares é fixe' for 'Soares é lixo'.
José Sócrates (PM): "On this moment the candidate that serves best for Portugal and his citizens is Soares". Remember he is only 80 years old.
Note: Soares did probably a lot for Portugal, especially in the era after the dictatur. But there is a time for everyone.
